This innovative approach utilizes real-time data to establish creditworthiness
Guizhou province is forging ahead in rural revitalization by harnessing the power of big data integration in the agricultural sector. In a breeding farm operated by Guizhou Zhenghuakun Breeding Co., Ltd., more than 400 cows are now equipped with “intelligent ear studs” that contain vital information about each animal. These high-tech ear tags record details such as birth date, sex, weight, and even the cow’s lineage.
Zhao Xiping, the company’s head, explained that this innovative approach utilizes real-time data to establish creditworthiness. With IoT sensing devices, beef cattle can be easily identified, located, tracked, monitored, and managed. This information allows banks to analyze industrial big data more effectively, manage risk control throughout the entire supply chain, and provide loans with greater confidence.
In the past, Zhao Xiping faced challenges with slow or difficult access to bank loans. He cited the unpredictable nature of cattle growth, which can be influenced by factors such as diseases and natural disasters. The traditional mortgage financing model clashed with the property rights structure of agricultural subjects. However, with the aid of big data, Zhenghuakun has rapidly expanded its operation from just over 20 cattle to a herd of more than 400 in recent years.
Guizhou is witnessing the widespread integration of big data across various sectors. For instance, in Guanling Autonomous County, a big data center for prickly ash has enabled farmers to monitor the growth process of the crop in real time using their mobile phones. This has significantly enhanced the planting efficiency of prickly ash. In Dailucao Township, which serves as a pilot township for rural live broadcasting in Suiyang County, Wenshan yellow peaches were sold out within a mere 15 days.
The Guizhou Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs emphasized that big data collection and analysis are increasingly being applied in innovative ways across different stages of agriculture, including planting, breeding, processing, logistics, and marketing. This shift is gradually transforming the traditional agricultural model, which heavily relied on experience and weather, while enhancing the competitive advantage of agricultural products.
Guizhou boasts more than 1,000 local digital sales platforms, including “ONE MA Guizhou” at the forefront, a logistics infrastructure called “Cloud Warehouse of Guizhou Products” that integrates provincial, city, county, township, and village networks, as well as smart agricultural cloud platforms. The province has actively pursued the digitalization of the entire agricultural product supply chain, extending digital technology from the consumer end (“table”) to the production end (“land”).
In 2022, Guizhou’s agriculture, forestry, husbandry, and fishery sectors recorded a total output value of 490.88 billion yuan, representing a 4.1 per cent year-on-year increase. The agricultural sector alone accounted for 331.37 billion yuan, marking a 3.5 per cent year-on-year growth. As part of the plan, Guizhou aims to significantly enhance the level of agricultural digitalization by 2025. This will involve accelerating the development of agricultural big data, smart agriculture, and rural e-commerce, while increasing the integrated development level index of big data and agriculture from 39.8 in 2020 to 45. With thriving industries and improved living standards, Guizhou is rapidly advancing rural revitalization in the new era.
